Introduction to Dr. Aisha’s Health Vision Hospital

A Project of NGO Health Vision

Health vision started informal work in 1992 as a health care initiative, operating within the scope of health, education and awareness which includes a better vision of healthy life through networking. It is committed to promoting sustainable, equitable and just development by working at grass root levels and opened IQ Neuropsychiatric hospital with 10 beds and gradually increased to 35 beds with drug detoxification, counselling, post and pre-operative assessment and counseling.

Informal contributions were done by a young team of doctors and like-minded family & friends to attain health care of their community in urban & rural areas.

In 1999, formally registered with the Govt. of Sindh # DSW 16314-k as an NGO with a wider scope.

Opened up a general hospital in 1997 and later changed the name to Dr. Aisha’s Health Vision Hospital.

Aisha’s HVH is a 85 bedded hospital with all facilities including ICU, NICU, PICU which is our critical care unit, surgical units, operation theatre, genecology wards, general wards, semi private and private rooms under the care of CMO, RMOs, staff nurses, looking after the needs of patients 24 hours a day.

The list of consultants include leading doctors from various fields working in parallel hospitals at AKUH, LNH, Indus, Civil, Jinnah etc.

We have fully equipped ICU, NICU and operation theatres to handle all related issues, round the clock doctors and staff nurses with allied staff to cater to the needs of all patients who come under our roof.

We cater to various departments including gynae, orthopedic with C-Arm, general surgery including laparoscopic, invasive surgeries, neuro, vascular etc to name a few.

We have a fully equipped Radiology department with latest digital fixed and portable X-ray.

Achievements Acquired

The Agha Khan Health services Pakistan availed the services of Dr. Aishas Healthvision Hospital ( formerly SMAMH )and I.Q during the period 1999 till the repatriation of the Afghan Refugees in 2002. During this time 600 patients were treated at SMAMH and 500 at I.Q.

Health Vision has been collecting information from communities through field research since its establishment in 1992. Research has helped health vision adapt and improve services delivery to clients. In conjunction with research, the prevalence of HIV was also studied. The finding of 3 years of research on Psychiatric Morbidity has been presented in the International Psychiatric Conference, held in 1999, in Quetta Pakistan.

SAARC through the Pakistan Girls Guide Association sponsored 14 children for extensive plastic surgeries and major orthopedic procedures for limb replacement at Dr. Aishas Healthvision Hospital (formerly SMAMH). Health Vision as its contribution towards child welfare waived off medicines and hospital charges.

The affiliation of IQ with Hamdard Medical University led to the first ever Psychiatric National Conference by private sector in 1999.

Pakistan Psychiatric Society with the collaboration of IQ made a documentary on mental health named DAACHI in association with Professor Dr. Amin Gadit.

Since its establishment Dr. Aishas Healthvisin Hospital (formerly SMAMH) and IQ has been providing cost-to-cost basis medical services to Alamgir Welfare Trust International. They have acknowledged our services in their documentary film on healthcare.

We conducted surveys to study KABP- Knowledge, attitude, behaviors and practice in collaboration with DAPRC (drug abuse prevention resource center) in 1998.

Health Vision was working with UNHCR as their implementing partner for health serves in Afghan Refugee Voluntary Repatriation Process.

Health Vision supported Hamdard Medical University for Manora Health Project which is an anthropological project surveying 25000 population of the island conducted by Professor Dr. Amin Gadit.

Launched HIV / AIDS and STD’s preventative and control program in Central Prison Karachi for the prisoners.

Other Activities

Awareness through telephone helpline / hotline for AIDS awareness Control Program.

  • Facilitation for study and research to students. ( University and other professional students from Bahria University, Karachi University and K.I.T.E)
  • Arrangement of training workshops for workers and master trainers in the field of CME.
  • Arrangements of lectures and awareness programs in educational institutions, law enforcing agencies, vulnerable communities, groups and, other work places.
  • Arrangement of competitions for the promotion of a cause.
  • Working on a project assigned by International organizations. ( WHO, etc.)

Dr. Aishas HVH contributions to National and Natural Disasters

1995- Proposed, drafted and designed the IBS- Institute Of Behavioral Psychology for Dr. Qadeer Khan for the proposed institute.

1998 –  In collaboration with girl guides we performed free of cost 14 surgeries, which included limb replacement, plastic surgeries and reconstructive surgeries, on Nepalese nationals who had been victims of land mines. This project was funded by International donors.

1999 – Accompanied Imran Khan to Nagar Parkar, Thar to combat the affects of a drought on the local population. We set up camp on site from which we distributed food and provided medical aid to those in need.

2001 – Being a founder of Zindagi Trust we visited, flood stricken Badin with a team of 30 paramedics, doctors, volunteers and consultants for a 3 day medical camp. During this time we also distributed 10 truckloads of food staples to the local population.

2001-2002 – We were approved by Agha Khan Health Services to be on their panel for the treatment of Afghan refugees in all specialties, including psychiatry. We assisted a research paper with Prof. Amin Gadit on child prisons.

2002- Arranged Cricket Match between World 11 VS Pakistan team in collaboration with Zindagi Trust.

2003 – Being a part of Zindagi Trust we had a major contribution in organizing various fund raising activities such as a Bryan Adams charity concert, “Rock for a Cause”, charity cricket matches with the assist of the PCB and, opening clinics in Manora and Baba Bhit Shah.

2003 – We looked after the medical aid of the the Afghan refugees during the Afghan Repatriation project which was a government project funded by the UNHCR.

2004 – Along with Zindagi Trust we opened various schools in poverty stricken areas under the “I am paid to learn” program in which we gave the children Rs.20 stipend per day to attend school.

2004 – In a joint venture with the AIDS Society we visited juvenile jails and detention centers, where we conducted seminars, workshops and, lectures on the prevention of AIDS.

2005 – After the earthquake in the Northern Areas of Pakistan we set up a 2 month camp, accompanied by 40 paramedics and doctors, in which we provided food, clothing and medical aid to the afflicted.

2006 – Accompanied by a 20 member team we provided the area from Gawadar to Ormara with medical aid during the flood in a 3 day medical camp.

2007-2009 – Support for microfinance business funding. For eg. Opened carpenter shop, grocery store and fruit stalls.

2010 – With the Help of the House Of Dreams NGO and Nixor College, we took students from Nixor College to the Gari Khairo district in Jacobabad, where they built 20 pre-fabricated steel houses and 50 cemented houses after the flooding of the area. Along with this we also arranged for medicine, food staples and tents through local government.

 2010 till date – Installation of handpumps in districts Jacobabad, Thatta and Badin.

2012 – Along with the Alamgir Welfare Trust we distributed Rs.25 Million in cash for food staples.

2014-2015 – We vaccinated over 80,000 families in interior Sindh from Hepatitis B, along with these people we also provided the vaccines to Pak Rangers, ASF, and, some impoverished areas of Karachi.

2016 – With the help of a local NGO Voice Of Karachi (VOK) we helped in Sabeel Camps, Water Coolers, ORS distribution and towels in all districts of Karachi. Other than that we also helped build roads and repair and maintain the sewerage lines with the help of local representatives.

2017-2019 – We donated roof materials to people with semi-permanent houses.

2020 till date-Surgical eye camps with the help of Saylani Welfare Trust who provided over 10000 IOLs (Inter-Ocular Lens) per year free of cost in district Gari Khairo, Gari Yaseen and other districts.

Future Plans

Our future plans include opening of a Nursing School to train and empower the youth towards medical allied services.

To set up complete CTs/ MRIs within the hospital premises so that patients do not have to go outside for these tests.

To provide CT guided biopsies, endoscopies with latest equipment’s.

To widen our scope regards to healthcare facility and teaching faculty.

To empower self-sustainable units for the needs of patients in collaboration with different donor organizations in different parts of Karachi/ Sindh.
